VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol)

There are many, many service providers providing VOIP services for varying amounts of monthly cost and a myriad of services including fixed cost and ala carte services (most often International calling rates).  One of the premier service providers is VONAGE who offers monthly services that include a vide array of services - their basic service costs $24.99 (and up) per month PLUS taxes and other fees.

There are other service providers providing VOIP services for as little as $2.00 per month but with very limited capabilities (and probably “not so good” reliability).

One “middle of the road” service providers is Phone Power - following is an example of their basic service package and what that includes at a monthly rate of $8.33 per month PLUS taxes and fees for a total of $12.33 per month, $147.96 per year.

 WHAT AN INSTALLATION LOOKS LIKE:

1.      Axiom/CIFiber installs fiber cable around the island.  They then “splice” in a piece of fiber cable at you home location and run this cable to your house.  They will select the “shortest run” across your lawn to the house.  You will be responsible to “bury” this cable at some time in the future to protect if from damage (mowing, etc.).  They will then connect this cable to a box that they will install on the outside of you house - that box looks like:

2.       Axiom then installs a 2nd box along side of the first box and then connect these boxes together with a cable.  The 2nd box looks like:

3.      Axiom then runs another “flexible cable from the 2nd box along side of your house to the entry point - at this point they will drill a hole and run the cable into the house.  Axiom will select the entry point at their discretion, however, if you desire a specific entry point for the connection inside of your house then you can specify that location in a note that will accompany your reservation deposit check of $99.00 to Axiom.  Axiom will use every effort to meet your request for a specific installation.

4.      After the cable has been run inside of your house Axiom will enter your house and connect this cable a power brick and then plug that power brick into the nearest electrical outlet.  This will “light up” the fiber cable and make it ready.  If you are a “Seasonal Customer” that means you will have to leave your electrical power on during the winter of 2018/2019.  The power brick looks like:

5.      You will then be responsible to connect your Internet Router to the RJ45 jack on the side of the power brick using a 1000baseT CAT5e Ethernet cable.

All the above (Internet Router/Modem, VOIP Adaptor and telephone system are installed inside the house.  In this implementation (using Phone Power VOIP telephone) the user can connect to their existing telephone system and does not require a VOIP telephone.
