When you learn about an approaching storm, it is always wise to take some necessary precautions, whether you are staying at home or leaving for the day.

Electrical Surges:

Any damage or misalignment to externally mounted radio hardware caused by wind or rain is the responsibility of Axiom to correct and will not result in a bill to the subscriber. We anticipate there will be some amount of antenna misalignment as a result of high winds. In that situation the radio gear is not damaged but has been pushed to point in the wrong direction, interrupting service. Axiom will correct these conditions at no cost to you. Another common cause of damage for which the subscriber could be liable can occur as the result of power surges to equipment not adequately protected by surge protectors and/or battery UPS devices. Power spikes and brownouts are common during severe storms, especially those resulting in significant winds. These can result in damage to the power lines and cause unpredictable power fluctuations at your residence. Those spikes and surges, if unguarded, can damage the radio electronics. All installations should be connected to an electronics grade surge protector at the minimum, but a full battery UPS system is recommended. There is a 100% effective way to protect electronics from electrical damage during severe weather and that is to unplug those components. We recommend that clients unplug their radio and other sensitive electronics when weather conditions are particularly bad. Also, if the power has gone out it is recommended that those electronics be unplugged before the power returns as that return can be accompanied by surges and spikes.
